LA FENÊTRE
Shortfilm.
Director: Lucas Ortiz Estefanell + SpecialGuestX
Year: 2024
10-minute documentary/film that reflects on the creation of images with artificial intelligence. It draws a parallel with the fascination with the relation between reality and its representation that the Lumiere brothers had when they invented cinema.
Caught in the blur between the real and the artificial, a soundscape is created which, like the images, blurs the boundaries between the human and the technological.
Using only a violin and clarinet, sounds are generated that blend into the environment of a fictional room, where a ceiling fan takes center stage as the main sound.
In this composition, I explore how the soundtrack can camouflage itself as sound design, like a room-tone that, instead of being hidden, becomes the core of the composition, evoking the cyclical nature of technology and its ability to replicate everyday life.
The music merges with the visual narrative, leaving the listener in the same uncertainty: wondering whether what they’re hearing is real or an artificial construction.
In La Fenêtre, the voiceover reminds us that "these images are not real." This statement serves as a starting point for a deep reflection on how the creation of synthetic images not only challenges our perception of the world but also alters our own reality. As the line between the real and the synthetic blurs, the viewer is taken on an introspective journey where each image and word becomes an exploration of what it means to see, create, and understand.
